Join the World’s First Global Virtual Hackathon with total prizes over $35,000!
How does it work?
This event is organized by Koding.com and intended to connect developers across the globe and get them to code together irrespective of their locations.
To join it, sign up here. You must register till Dec 3rd, 2014 12PM PST (Dec 3rd, 23.00 Minsk time).
Applications can come from individuals or teams of up to 5. If you are an individual who is selected and are looking for team members, post a message on the #hackathon channel on Koding.
Your project MUST BE a web app that is viewable on your Koding VMs web URL. Mobile apps are not allowed. (Don't worry if you don't have an always-on Koding VM, we will take care of that for you when we review your work.)
The following themes for the hackathon have been selected:
- Problems facing our planet, explained using interactive data visualization. (e.g. climate change, earthquakes, food/water waste, etc.)
- Introducing software development to a beginner (games!)
- No one reads the fine print (i.e. TOS, EULA, legal documents) anymore yet every site has them. Devise a creative/interactive solution.
- HTML5 games that are educational and learning oriented. (multiplayer preferred)
- Challenges associated with real time communication and translation (Star Trek universal translator anyone?)
Your task is to use publicly available resources (APIs, data sets, graphics, etc.) and your imagination to create a project that addresses one of the themes of the event.
What is the schedule?
Dec 6th - Day 1 Let the hacking begin! (starts on Dec 6th, 11.00 Minsk time)
Dec 7th - Day 2 of the Hackathon. Hacking continues. 23.30 – 23.59 PST (Dec 8th 10.30-10.59 Minsk time) - teams submit their projects to [email protected]
Dec 10th - Winners are notified and winning projects are listed for public viewing.
